Growing maritime connectivity market faces covid-19 setback

Paris, Washington D.C., Montreal, Yokohama – In its latest research titled, Euroconsult projects that the previously growing maritime connectivity market will experience a significant setback due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Maritime VSAT connectivity reached an all-time high of 28,200 connected vessels at the end of 2019 but because of the current health crisis, the previous projection of 49,300 terminals by 2023 has been reduced to 40,600 units.

The 2020s: The space exploration decade with $260 billion invested by governments

Paris, Washington D.C., Montreal, Yokohama – According to Euroconsult’s latest research,global government investment in space exploration totalled nearly $20 billion in 2019, a 6% increase year-on-year. Thirty-one countries and space agencies lead this global investment with the U.S. accounting for 71% of spending. Funding for space exploration is forecast to increase to $30 billion by 2029, driven by Moon exploration, transportation, and orbital infrastructure. Approximately 130 missions are expected over the coming decade, compared to 52 missions conducted over the past 10 years.

Cumulative 10-year revenue forecast for High Throughput Satellite to reach $85 billion by 2028

Paris, Washington D.C., Montreal, Yokohama – In its latest research titled, Euroconsult projects that High Throughput Satellite (HTS) revenue will reach $15 billion by 2028 with aggregate capacity leasing revenue over the 10 year period reaching $85 billion by 2028. Demand will be driven by nine vertical markets for a 26 percent annual growth rate over the ten-year period covered in the report. Supply is expected to grow by 12 times between 2019 and 2024.

Euroconsult forecasts satellite demand to experience a four-fold increase over the next 10 years

Paris, Washington D.C., Montreal, Yokohama – In its latest analysis of satellite manufacturing and launch services,Euroconsult projects that the satellite market will experience a radical transformation in the quantity, value and mass of the satellites to be built and launched with a four-fold increase in the number of satellites at a yearly average of 990 satellites to be launched, compared to a yearly average of 230 satellites in the previous decade. The market will reach $292 billion over the next decade. This reflects a 28 percent increase over the previous decade which totalled $228 billion in revenues.

Commercial space revenues to reach $485 billion by 2028

Paris, Washington D.C., Montreal, Yokohama – In its latest research titled, Euroconsult projects that the commercial space value chain will see steady growth over the next decade, reaching $485 billion by 2028. The upstream segment, which includes commercial revenues from manufacturing, launch and ground equipment is expected to increase from $8 billion in 2018 to $11 billion in 2028, a growth rate of four percent per year. The downstream segment consisting of commercial operations and satellite services, including satellite navigation, was valued at $290 billion in 2018, projected to increase at a rate of five percent per year to reach $474 billion in 2028.

Satellite communications pricing to stabilize through 2020 as hiatus in on-orbit capacity growth comes into play

Paris, Washington D.C., Montreal, Yokohama – In its latest research titled, Euroconsult details pricing for traditional C-band, Ku-band and High Throughput Satellite (HTS) capacity broken out by contracts, regions, spectrum bands, and applications. The report shows that as the growth of satellite capacity on orbit slows, pricing levels per megahertz (MHz) for regular capacity and per megabits per second (Mbps) for HTS capacity have both stabilized at lower rates of decline and are projected to continue that trend through 2020.

Market survey on satellite operators reveals shifting strategies and new entrants

Paris, Washington D.C., Montreal, Yokohama – In its latest research titled, Euroconsult shows that 11 new FSS providers have emerged over the last five years including two in 2018. Many of these companies are state-owned national operators, which will mostly serve national interests. Twelve new satellite operators are planning to enter the FSS geostationary (GEO) market by the early to mid 2020s, including companies targeting national market such as NepalSat, and Royal Group of Cambodia. Included in these twelve operators, are three with plans for small GEO satellites, which may indicate a new trend in the FSS industry facilitated in part by digital payloads, electric propulsion, and lower launch costs.
